Rubbertec
„GRM by Rubbertec – Rubber Modified Bitumen Granulate“ is a mixture of road construction bitumen and special rubber flours. The rubber-modified bitumen granulate serves as additive for the versatile modification of road bitumen.
How can I process GRM by Rubbertec?
GRM by Rubbertec is fed directly into the mixing process in the asphalt mixing plant. Depending on the application, GRM 40/15 or 40/20 is mixed directly in the mixer of the asphalt mixing plant in different dosages with standard road construction bitumen according to DIN EN 12591. All rubber-modified bitumen granulates are added to the dry mixes (all aggregates - without bitumen).
The dry mixing time (depending on the respective configuration and condition of the mixer) should be up to 10 seconds. Then, the road bitumen is added. Modified remixing times (aggregates, „GRM by Rubbertec“ and binders) are usually not required. However, Rubbertec recommends trial mixes directly at the asphalt mixing plant to check the mixing times.
Due to the high viscosity level, the addition of binder carriers is usually not required. The suitability of the asphalt mixtures must be proven beyond doubt in initial tests. Since the rubber components of the Rubbertec GRM bitumen granulate have already been optimally broken down during production, a so-called maturing, swelling, or reaction time in the production silo of the asphalt mixing plant is not necessary. Therefore, the asphalt can be laid immediately after production.

Dosages for use in rolled asphalts comply with tl rmb-stb, by:
- 33 M.-% GRM 40/20 (premium product), based on the total binder content, blended with 67 wt.% road bitumen 70/100. The resulting binder according to TLRmB- StB: RmB G 35/70-55. In exceptional cases (e.g., unique climatic conditions), a bitumen 50/70 can also be used. Applications: e.g., porous asphalt wearing courses, SMA LA.
- 22 M.-% GRM 40/15, based on the total binder content, blended with 78 wt.% road bitumen 50/70. The resulting binder according to TL-RmB-StB: RmB G 20/60-55. In exceptional cases (e.g., unique climatic conditions or other stresses), a bitumen 70/100 or 30/45 can also be used. Applications: e.g., SMA, asphalt binder courses (also asphalt concretes, continuously graded mixtures and mixtures according to the SMA principle), also normal asphalt concretes.
- 12 M.-% GRM 40/15, based on the total binder content, mixed with 88 wt.% road bitumen 50/70. The resulting binder according to TL-RmB-StB: RmB G 20/60-52. In exceptional cases (e.g., unique climatic conditions or other stresses), a bitumen 70/100 or 30/45 can also be used. Applications: e.g., SMA, asphalt binder courses, asphalt concretes, thinlayer pavements.
- The rubber-modified bitumen granulate is part of the total binder content. This means that the dosed amount of GRM can reduce the addition of road bitumen. In practice, however, a slight increase of the usual total binder content by up to 0.3 wt.% has proved successful.
- The use of RC asphalts is possible without restrictions. The degree of modification, i.e., the amount of GRM added, refers to the respective total binder content (total binder content = amount of new binder added plus the amount of bin binder from the RC portion plus GRM portion).
- Further addition of additives, e.g., for temperature reduction, is also possible. However, special attention must be paid to the lower viscosity level during processing and installation when preparing the initial test.
- Tenders can be issued per TL RmB-StB, By; 2010 edition or E GmBA - Recommendations on rubber- modified bitumen and asphalt; 2012 edition (a reference to rubber-modified bitumen granulate is required).
- The favourable properties of GRM by Rubbertec allow you to benefit from a significant increase in the durability of asphalt surfaces
- This ultimately means extended utilisation intervals, leading to long-term savings. Open-pored asphalt has a service life which is up to 60% longer, and dense asphalt a service life which is up to 30% longer in comparison with polymer modification.
- GRM by Rubbertec is a „finished product“. As no so called longer maturing or swelling times are required at the usual mixing temperatures in the loading silo of the asphalt mixing plant, temperature-reduced asphalts can also be tendered and produced without any problems using suitable construction binders.
- GRM by Rubbertec is a tried and tested product. Polymermodified binders (type: PmB A) can be substituted without any problems.
- GRM by Rubbertec can be stored almost indefinitely at the asphalt mixing plant. Therefore, the product can be kept in stock without any concerns. Small and minimal quantities of asphalt can be tendered and produced without problems.
- Quick and easy to use: the types of asphalt made with the use of GRM by Rubbertec can be laid and compacted with standard polymer-modified binders without any problem. Water (in small quantities) has proven to be an excellent release agent. No further interventions are necessary, and that also applies to the transport.
- If you choose GRM by Rubbertec, you have chosen a safe and tried-and-tested premium product.
- And you won’t have to deal with unpleasant smells either, as GRM by Rubbertec also comes with an “odour inhibitor”.
- When using the Rubbertec products, you benefit from total process reliability.
- Up to 30% less emissions compared to other binders.
- There is no minimum order quantity – you are welcome to order the exact amount you need in advance of your work. This saves you any high-cost leftover quantities as well as waiting or idle times with the delivery of the binders.
- Depending on the configuration of your asphalt mixing plant, you can choose between big bags (700 kg) or pallets with meltable PE bags. The agreement on the type is made according to the customer’s requirements.
- The composition of GRM by Rubbertec means that it be stored indefinitely at the asphalt mixing plant without any special requirements. No separate silo units, tanks for binders with agitator systems or additional tank capacities are necessary.
- The dosage of the GRM by Rubbertec is also exceptionally straightforward. It is poured directly onto the hot aggregates in the mixer at the asphalt mixing plant.
- When using Rubbertec products, pumps and conveying systems for binders need not work so hard, because the increase in viscosity only takes place in the asphalt mixer of the asphalt mixing plant and only standard road bitumen is conveyed and metered.
- GRM by Rubbertec can be pretty much used as a “finished product”. This means that extended maturing or swelling times at normal mix temperatures in the loading silo of the asphalt mixing plant are no longer necessary.
- GRM by Rubbertec is highly flexible in its use. In practice, this means that different concentrations and road bitumen that has different gradations can be used to realise almost any conceivable kind of asphalt. Additional tank capacities no longer need to be maintained (e.g.: PmB, PmB RC, PmB RC plus, PmB with a higher degree of modification).
